A Little Understanding Of Where Ultimate Frisbee Came From
Saturday, March 20th, 2010The sport of ultimate frisbee has been here since 1967. A goup of college kids started the game while they were hanging out collectively. Frisbee was already commonly played there and they wanted to make it more competitive for their own entertainment. One of the kids had the name of Joel Silver and he helped to spread the game further when he transferred to a college in Lafayette in the year 1970.
Colleges started to compete against each other in Ultimate Frisbee in the year of 1972. People truy loved the game of Ultimate Frisbee and although there were only a few teams in those first years, the thrill of the pastime spread and more teams developed. As a result of this rapid growth, there were 20 teams in competition against each other by the year 1975. By 1979 things had grown so much that regions were drawn so that teams could play against those locally. The top teams would then play each other for the title of the year.
Although it was very popular amongst college students, they are not the only people who were playing. You could find a lot of Frisbee clubs in the land by the yin the warmer year 1976 especially in the warmer climate states like Florida and California. People would play the sport along the beaches and enjoy the nice weather at the same time. Games on the beach often drew large crowds that wanted to see who would walk away the winner.
It wasn’t long after this, in the year 1980 to be exact, that an association of players was put together known as the Untimate Players Association. This group helped to bring recognition to all of the various teams who wanted to participate and play Ultimate Frisbee. This organization laid out some official ultimate frisbee rules which were to be followed by all of the teams and games which were being hosted by them. The winners from these regional games would move on to the final round. Each year one team become recognized as the national champion by the Ultimate Players Association.
Ultimate Frisbee these days can be found all over the world being played in these types of competitions. The greatest popularity of the sport can still be found at the college level. There are also plenty of ultimate Frisbee clubs that take part in it as well. As a form of physical fitness, the pastime is being intoroduced into P.E. classes in many diverse grade schools. This seems to really fuel an interest in some students. They go on to join the clubs and university teams as they obtain older.
